David McKay

 

Mr. McKay holds a Master of Music degree (Composition) from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory, and a Bachelor of Music (Composition, Literature, and Theory) from Heidelberg College, Tiffin, OH. As a student of Lukas Foss, Mr. McKay won the prestigious BMI Awards to Student Composers for his Piano Concerto in 1976.

David McKay is a classically trained pianist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator whose collection of musical compositions and arrangements earned him international recognition. As a jazz pianist and composer, he is leader and founder of the jazz group Quad Venti. Available from Apple’s iTunes, Quad Venti is smooth ambient jazz from an unprecedented locale. McKay’s jazz influenced orchestral work entitled Dorian Reel premiered at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center with The Nashville Choir and Nashville Symphony Orchestra in 2006. His eclectic Four Pieces for Viola and Piano received a World Premiere at the McLean School of Music Wright Music Hall at Middle Tennessee State University in 2004.

David simultaneously began his professional career as educator, arranger-composer, pianist and worship leader in Cincinnati over 20 years ago. He taught theory-composition, choir and music theatre at the School for Creative and Performing Arts. As a keyboard player and staff arranger-composer, he worked for Sound Images and Jay Gilbert Productions, writing and scoring music for television, radio and film. Some of his clients include AT&T, American Standard, McDonalds, Wendy’s, G.E., Proctor & Gamble, Uniroyal, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

In addition to producing his own recordings, McKay has produced projects with Carl and Leann Albrect (Integrity’s Hosanna Music), Lynn DeShazo (Integrity’s Hosanna Music), Max Lucado (Thomas Nelson), Laura Rhinehart, The Goads, and more. His choral music is published through LifeWay and A.M.S.I. He is a BMI writer/publisher and member of the AFM. He is a pro audio specialist and clinician for Sibelius Software, USA.
