Peter Johns
Peter Johns is a native of Norwich, England, and has been involved in an extensive variety of musical activities since early childhood. He graduated in 1993 from Nottingham Trent University in England with a degree in Creative Arts in Music Composition and Performance. While there, he also earned a minor in Contemporary Theater. In addition, he was the first student to be awarded a scholarship to study composition and orchestration at Vysoká škola múzických umení in Bratislava, Slovakia.
In 1994, Mr. Johns moved from the U.K. to Lubbock, Texas to work for the United Methodist Church. During his tenure in Lubbock, he composed two major choral works, and also collaborated with the Contemporary Music Ensemble at Texas Tech University. Subsequently, in 1998, he was honored as a semi-finalist in the National Association of Christian Artists and Song Writers annual competition for song composition.
Peter Johns has been on the music staff at Houston’s Chapelwood United Methodist Church since 2001. He has composed works for the church’s Chancel Choir, the Children’s Choir program, and other musical ensembles. His major works include 2 Cantatas, 2 Children’s Musicals and a Requiem Mass that was performed at Rice University in 2009 and at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Waco in 2012 and 2015
When not working Peter can usually be found cooking something elaborate in the kitchen or hunched over an obscure German board game.
